The governor, a Baptist preacher, issued the call a few days ago. They met in Atlanta and prayed.
The Atlanta Journal reported that Gov. Perdue called on people of all faiths: Christians, Jews, Muslims, Buddhists, etc. to join in praying to whoever their god is.
I like the idea of the governor calling on the people to pray. This is far from unprecedented in our nation’s history.
But, I am troubled by the pluralism of it. What is a Baptist doing urging Muslims to pray to their god? Should this elected leader call together false religions and have a joint prayer service? No way!
What do you think of this? Should the governor even be issuing a call to pray?
If you think it is right for him to do so, what do you think of this Baptist calling other faiths to a prayer service such as this? I am interest in your thoughts.

Hm, I am torn. Since I’m a Christian, I wouldn’t mind it if the governor called people to pray to the one true God. But it gets muddy with the separation of church and state. If you have to include one, you must include all. And I think it’s wrong to encourage people to pray to the gods of their false religions. So in the end, I don’t think the governor should be issuing a call to pray at all. These are just my initial thoughts.
