A sheriff in Colorado is under investigation for supporting Christmas. Yes, you read that correctly.

Larimer, Colo., County Sheriff Jim Alderden decided to place some Christmas symbols on the county jail property and has met with some stiff resistance. After a city “task force recommended white lights, as well as neutral and non-religious decorations such as snowflakes, snowmen, snowballs, ice skates, skis, penguins and polar bears for this time of year” he decided to take action.

Sherrif Alderden said,

The fact that we are even engaged in a discourse of whether Christmas trees and Christian symbols of faith should be allowed on city property is absurd. When one is sliding down a slippery slope, there comes a time to dig in your heels, grab the nearest branch, and hold on for dear life. Our country, and sadly our own community, has reached that point where people of faith and good conscience can no longer stand silently while a belligerent minority usurps our heritage and dictates how and where we express our religious freedoms. It is time to make a statement – to grab that branch, in this case a pine bough.

The article goes on…

So he said in recognition and celebration of Christmas, members of his department would display “a Christmas tree – not a holiday tree” on the department’s lawn Dec. 1. To make sure no tax dollars go to the “unauthorized” display, he said he would accept donations of lights and ornaments.

As my uncle Howard used to say, “What is this world coming to?”

Any thoughts? Should the sheriff be chastised for this? Should the display come down? Is this PC gone crazy?

This is PC gone completely insane. I am not even a christian and this makes me furious!

My recommendation to the sheriff. Find out who the mealy mouth, ACLU loving, scumbag was that started the ruckus and dig into their lives. I am sure you will find something to incarcerate them, and then make them, as prisoner labor, erect the tree and lights.

TRM, I agree. This is PC madness. Wouldn’t that be ironic? The objector forced to erect the display?

    Thanks for checking in.

    It’s a national holiday! Unbelievable.

Would a “Kwanzaa tree” be allowed? I love how every other religion (I realize Kwanzaa is not a religion by the way) needs to be tolerated, but Christianity needs to be debased. I’m all for temperament, but maybe we’ve gone too far! I love the imagery of flailing down a hill – very apropos.

    Unbelievable, yet not surprising…

    Blessings Les. Good post.
