Youth and God’s Will
January 10, 2008
Well, this is really for anyone, but I am aiming toward youth. Would you, young person, have character? Would you grow in holiness? Where better could you look for aid and strength to grow in holiness than our Lord Jesus Christ?
This week in the Wednesday youth meeting at our church we talked about God’s will. Of course that took us at one point to 1 Thessalonians 4:3-8:
For this is the will of God, your sanctification: that you abstain from sexual immorality; that each one of you know how to control his own body in holiness and honor, not in the passion of lust like the Gentiles who do not know God; that no one transgress and wrong his brother in this matter, because the Lord is an avenger in all these things, as we told you beforehand and solemnly warned you. For God has not called us for impurity, but in holiness. Therefore whoever disregards this, disregards not man but God, who gives his Holy Spirit to you.
Young man or young woman, Jesus is your hope to fulfill God’s will for your life. Look to Him.
One of the Harris brothers, Alex or Brett, wrote a piece a while back over on The Rebelution partly based on the writings of J.C. Ryle. Here is a quote from The Rebelution:
It is wonderful for us to understand and embrace doctrines of faith, grace, justification, and sanctification. They all provide strength to resist sin and a steady arm to help us back up when we fall. But it is much, much better to be familiar with Jesus Christ Himself, to see His face, and to catch a glimpse of His splendor. This, according the J.C. Ryle, “is one secret of eminent holiness.” If we wish to become stronger in resisting sin, what better way than to study Him “who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet was without sin” (Hebrews 4:15)?
You can and should read the rest of the article here. And if mom or dad, you are reading this, please show the Rebelution to your teenager. It is a great site for young people. Their blog is fantastic!

In fact I am looking into their one-day conference being held in several locations. The Resolved conf. looks really good, if we can work it out (California) and three boys!

Thanks for pointing out Rebolution, Les. I was not aware of it before. And thanks for being there and for interacting in the discussion last night. I appreciate your insights and wisdom.
