Quoted in Baptist Press:
“The Roman Catholic Church believes that evangelicals are in spiritual danger for obstinately and disobediently excluding ourselves from submission to its universal claims and its papacy,” Mohler wrote. “Evangelicals are concerned that Catholics are in spiritual danger for their submission to these very claims. We both understand what is at stake.
“The divide between evangelical Christians and the Roman Catholic Church remains — as this Pope well understands. And, in so many ways, this is a Pope we can understand. In this strange world, that is no small achievement.”

If Mohler is correct, and I think he is, how are we to respond to our RC friends and family members? At least at one level, and the most important level, we need to explain the true gospel to them. We need to open the scriptures and show them that the gospel is good news! God saves sinners, wholly apart from any efforts on our part! That is good news indeed.
The RC “gospel” is not really good news. According to RC, one is made right with God by His grace plus our efforts. Of course the problem is that in RC, one can never really know if he/she is forgiven and destined for eternity with God. That is not good news at all!
No, the Reformers were correct to repudiate that kind of thinking and declare, as the Bible does, that sinners are saved solely by God’s grace by means of faith in Christ alone and His finished work. That is good news!
If you are a RC looking in on this blog, we urge you to trust no more in ANY efforts of your own and trust ONLY in Jesus. He forgives sins and remembers them no more! Trust Him.
