What if Barack Obama wins the presidential election tomorrow? How will Christians who love God’s word respond? What will an Obama presidency say about God’s favor or disfavor of the United States of America?
I would be interested in your responses. What are your thoughts about an Obama presidency and its meaning?

I know when I voted, I didn’t fully understand, but after I voted, I realized that I had made a decision that didn’t support a strong America. When I voted, I realized I voted for someone who would “do it for me” where I don’t have to be responsible for myself. After I made that decision, I now know that I didn’t make a decision based on creating a strong America.
I want a candidate in office that will support me being an entrepreneur, which is what this country was founded on. This country is not about having the government being responsible for you, its about being an entrepreneur and having that self reliant spirit. And that was what this country was founded on. I don’t agree with everything McCain does, and how he campaigned, but he does know a little bit more about being an American and what it means to be an entrepreneur. And that is what this country needs right now, just a little bit more of that. So if you haven’t voted yet, vote for the candidate who will support us in being responsible for ourselves. This country does depend on it.

What will an Obama presidency say about God’s favor or disfavor of the United States of America?
We don’t have to wait for the results. The fact that Obama is even on the ticket says quite a bit about God’s disfavor of these United States of America (or should that be United States of Abortion?).
We have a “man” who advocates Marxism and he has the support of half of the country. But let’s put economics (theft) aside.
We have a “man” (if you can call a baby-killer a man) who supports infanticide and he has the support of half of the country.
This baby-killer then has the audacity to quote Jesus: Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me. (Matthew 25:40 TNIV)
Obama the Butcher supports dismembering the least of these. That’s no way to treat babies and it’s no way to treat Jesus.
Perhaps this Antichrist should have considered Matthew 18.
If anyone causes one of these little ones–those who believe in me–to stumble, it would be better for them if a large millstone were hung around their neck and they were drowned in the depths of the sea. (Matthew 18:6 TNIV)
If someone causing a child (who believes in Jesus) to stumble is so desperately wicked that it would be better for them if a large millstone were hung around their neck and they were drowned in the depths of the sea I can only imagine how horrible the punishment must be for someone who causes a child to be dismembered.
See that you do not despise one of these little ones. (Matthew 18:10 TNIV)
Certainly dismembering these little ones is at least as bad as despising.
I guess you could consider the USA as being under God’s favor in that he has not completely leveled us.

A great resource in developing a Christian response to these things is the recent Francis Schaeffer Lectures at Covenant Seminary, delivered by James Skillen. You can download these lectures for free here:

Thanks to all so far.
Wes, thanks for the link, but I am interested in each commenter’s thoughts, not so much what others think.

“An Obama Win”
Whoever wins, Christians are called in Romans 13 to submit to G’ment authorities as those appointed by God. l Tim. 2 calls us to pray for those in authority.
Even bad leaders and corrupt governments are better than anarchy.
Maybe an Obama win will cause us to consider our own faith. Do we really believe that God is on the throne?
Now the next question I have is how to deal with my tax dollars going towards laws and programs like abortion.
How do I live out my belief that God’s Word is supreme over all authorities?
November 5, 2008 at 11:58 am
Is there any way we can boycott the eminent abortion tax? I’d be OK with “forgetting” to claim the percentage Obama wants for that funding, but then again he’d still take money from me, just at a slightly lower amount. I wish there was a way to allocate tax dollars, just like we can allocate funds when tithing.
What do you all think of that approach? Is it unethical/immoral based on what we read in Romans and 1 Timothy? Does it do any good or is it just futile?

The rationale for the American Revolution is included in the Declaration of Independence.
I wonder what the Founding Fathers would think of us today.

Matt,
What would happen if Christians literally gave away to Christian organizations and missions all their earnings exccept what they needed for subsistence? Under the current tax laws ( as well as the proposed new ones) we would be solidly in the class that gets taxed at lower rates and we would be paying much less to the Government….maybe paying less than we do now.
Oh yes, we would be laying us treasures in heaven where moth and rust (and bad stock markets and deep recessions) do not destroy and thieves ( and politicians) do not break in and steal.
