Time kill?

January 20, 2010

I posted this in August 2006. The title was Time Kill Central?:

Well I hope not. I started blogging in earnest (about a post per day) almost a year ago. It has been fun and educational for me. I hope it hasn’t been a waste of time for you. If you do need to kill some time, check out Time Kill Central at Car Talk. Loads of fun.

During that time I have changed names and urls, thus moving the site. In spite of that and in spite of me, the blog quietly passed the 50,000 hit mark this week. Wow! For a nobody in the blogosphere to boot.

Here’s hoping that the posts are challenging, informative and just plain helpful.

I was at Reformation Faith Today at the time on WordPress. The 50,000 hit mark seemed so large at the time for an amateur such as I. Well, since then I have moved yet again in September 2009 to Posterous. I find the ease of blogging on Posterous much more attractive. Technically it is known as a Microblog. Anyway, my posts on this blog still autopost back at RFT, so it still gets hits as well.

Well today we passed 150,000 total hits. Small time I know. But still, I hope someone somewhere in the world was helped, informed or encouraged along the way. Time Kill Central is still good too.

Summer blogging

June 1, 2009

Lately I have thought about taking some time off from blogging. Many things are pressing these days and my interest in posting is a bit lagging.

But instead of a total break, I have decided to let the ESV Study Bible do the blogging for me. So when I do post, it will be a portion of the study notes from that day of the ESV Daily Reading schedule (upper right on the front of the blog). Feel free to interact with the notes.

Blogs and such

November 22, 2008

Several new additions to our blogroll are worth highlighting. Check them out.

You are already familiar with Monergism. You may not be familiar with Puritan Library. This a “must use” resource. This site is loaded with all things Puritan great writings.

Two other Monergism associated sites are Hall of Contemporary Reformers and Reformation Theology. Check these out.

Also new on the blogroll is Team Tominthebox News Network (TTNN). The link is at the picture of Lurch on the upper right side of this blog where we say that we support the emerging lurch. Great source of news!

Gospel Centered Musings is run by Michael DeWalt, a student at Puritan Reformed Theological Seminary.

Covenant Theology needs to be bookmarked. Their latest on egalitarianism gives you a flavor.

The Thirsty Theologian is one of my favorites.

Last, but certainly not least, is The Reformed Forum. Here is from their “about” section:

The Reformed Forum a group of reformed Christians producing content with a view to benefiting believers around the world. As a result, The Reformed Forum has developed a network of audio programs dedicated to issues in reformed theology. We seek to provide for the free exchange of reformed thought through various means ranging from panel discussions to audio versions of The Westminster Confession of Faith and Catechisms.

Some of the contributors include: Carl Trueman, Darryl G. Hart, David W. Hall, Derek Thomas, J. Ligon Duncan, James White,  John Carrick, K. Scott Oliphint, Lane G. Tipton, Lane Keister, R. Scott Clark, Rick Phillips, Ron Gleason, Russell Moore, Stephen J. Nichols and others.

Chris Ross has launched The Daily Scroll. Chris says the site is “for people who enjoy reading Christian blogs, but don’t have lots of time to surf the web each day. Here you’ll find links to the latest and greatest posts appearing around the faith blogosophere.”

Chris is also the contributing founder of The Coventicle. Check out both sites.

World Magazine-New Blog

World Magazine (if you don’t subscribe already, why not?) has launched their new blog at WorldMagBlog.

Check it out. It is outstanding!

Blog Bullies

July 27, 2008

We all know one or maybe a few. Blog Bullies are the kinds of blog hosts we really need to avoid.

What do they look like? Well for starters they are just plain bullies. One dictionary defines a bully as: A person who is habitually cruel or overbearing; To treat in an overbearing or intimidating manner; To force one’s way aggressively or by intimidation.

In my experience, bullies are really Read the rest of this entry »

Reading Blogs

June 9, 2008

If you check several blogs daily or every few days, then you need Google Reader. I started using it a few weeks ago and I can say it is so easy and really simplifies your blog reading life. All you need is a gmail account (free) and you’re off to the blog races. Google Reader is free too.

It is easy to subscribe to your favorite blogs as well as news sites, etc. When a new post is put up, it automatically shows up in your reader. Click here to subscribe.

New Blog Links

May 23, 2008

Check out some recent links aded on the sidebar “Other Blogs and Sites.”

9 Marks and 9 Marks Blog are fantastic sites by some reformed Baptist brothers: theology, ecclesiology, etc.

The Cornwall Alliance presents a solidly Biblical approach to environmental issues.

Radical Womanhood is a must see for you women folk. Don’t miss The Theologian. Fantastic! And last, but not least is Stand To Reason.

This is the best on the subject for Christians I have seen in a while.

There are people who use a blog as a public diary to think aloud. But a Christian should not be airing his doubts in public, and thereby planting seeds of doubt in other minds.

If I began to doubt the doctrines of grace, I wouldn’t advertise that state of mind at [XYZ Blog]. Rather, I would withdraw from blogging, and run my doubts by a few trusted friends in private. If I have no idea where I’m going, I have no right to take anyone with me.

i.e. a hodpodge.

1. Our new name and url: Reformation Faith Today http://reformationfaithtoday.com/

2. A new link on worship. Worship Matters has been added to the recommended sites. The site is a resource for leading worship and is led by Bob Kauflin. It is a very good resource if you are interested in articles on the most important thing we do.

3. Another new link is The Sola Panel. This looks very promising. The Sola Panel “is a bunch of Reformed Evangelical friends who love the five ‘solas’ of the Reformation, and who want to work together to promote a Bible-driven passion for theology, holiness and gospel ministry.” They are all in or near Sydney. Check them out.

4. Emergent. I have posted about Read the rest of this entry »

Jordan Ballor at the Acton Institute wrote a helpful piece on the subject. He writes in part

In the post-industrial Information age, Christians remain at the forefront of social and cultural formation. In the context of the developments at the dawn of the third millennium, the engagement of church and culture has taken on a new form, focused most especially on new forms of technology and communication. New Blog Addition

January 6, 2008

I ran across a blog called Betsy’s Blog the other day while reading National Review Online. It is now on my blogroll on the right side of my blog and I encourage you to check it out. Here is what Betsy says about her blog:

Betsy Hart is a nationally syndicated columnist for the Scripps Howard News Service. Her column on cultural and family issues, “From the Hart,” is distributed each week to hundreds of newspapers cross the country. It regularly appears in The Chicago Sun-Times (where it is Friday’s “Lifestyles” feature), The Denver Rocky Mountain News, The Boston Herald, The Washington Times and many other major papers.

For an archive of Betsy’s Column, click here (Betsy’s column archive)

Betsy’s first book, It Takes a Parent: How the Culture of Pushover Parenting is Hurting out Kids – and What to do About It, was released n September, 2005, and was a top seller for its publisher, Putnam Books. It was endorsed by Bill Bennett, Laura Ingraham, Kate O’Beirne, and other leading public figures, and received tremendous media attention and praise. Echoing the acclaim, Sean Hannity told his audience when Betsy appeared on FOX’s Hannity and Colmes show to discuss It Takes a Parent, “I love this book!”

Betsy hosts her own radio program featuring commentary and common sense insights on parenting and family life. Her new show, “It Takes a Parent,” is featured on Chicago’s WYLL/AM1160 radio, a 50,000 watt Salem Communications owned station, on Thursdays at 2:00 pm.

Betsy is already a frequent guest on television and radio. She often appears on the FOX News Channel and other television and radio networks offering her insights on the news events of the day. She was a regular guest on ABC’s long-running hit show Politically Incorrect, whose host Bill Maher told his television audience of Betsy, “She is one of our favorites here on the show!”

Articles about Betsy have appeared in the Chicago Tribune, The Washington Times, Maclean’s, The Ladies Home Journal and other publications. And in an appearance on The Oprah Winfrey Show, Betsy was featured as one of America’s top five women columnists.

Previously, Betsy served on the White House staff in the Reagan Administration in the press office.

Betsy is raising her four young children in the suburbs of Chicago.
