What if Barack Obama wins the presidential election tomorrow? How will Christians who love God’s word respond? What will an Obama presidency say about God’s favor or disfavor of the United States of America?
I would be interested in your responses. What are your thoughts about an Obama presidency and its meaning?
One of the blogs I subscribe to in my Google Reader is called Pensees. For some reason unknown to me, I cannot get to the blog itself. I don’t think you can either. In any case, the post below is very much worth your read. UPDATE: Actually you can get to the blog. Just click on the title below at the top of the article.
As you read the opening quote, remember that Saul Alinsky “was an American community organizer and writer. He is generally considered to be the founder of modern community organizing in America, the political practice of organizing communities to act in common self-interest. Alinsky is sometimes said to have coined the term “Think globally, act locally.”" (Wikipedia)
In August, Investors Business Daily wrote in an editorial.
Indeed, Alinsky believed in sacrificing ethics and morals for the great cause. “Ethical standards must be elastic to stretch with the times,” Alinsky wrote in his last book, “Rules for Radicals,” adding that “all values are relative in a world of political relativity.”
Published a year before Alinsky’s death in 1972, “Rules for Radicals” includes a dedication in which he gives “an over-the-shoulder acknowledgment to the very first radical . . . who rebelled against the establishment and did it so effectively that he at least won his own kingdom — Lucifer.”
Here is the opening, with the entire post below (bold added):
The ego of the organizer is stronger and more monumental than the ego of the leader. The leader is driven by the desire for power, while the organizer is driven by the desire to create. The organizer is in a true sense reaching for the highest level for which man can reach – to create, to be a ‘good creator,’ to play God. ~ Saul D. Alinsky, Rules For Radicals, p. 61. On this Reformation Day, let us all give thanks to God for His wonderful provision in leading godly men to break the shackles of human efforts attempting to find peace with God.
Not only do we look back on Martin Luther and his courageous act in 1517 on this day, but we look back to the courage of John Wycliff, John Hus, Ulrich Zwingli, John Calvin, Theodore Beza, John Knox and many more.
Truly is this day a day of thanksgiving to God for moving these men to recover the true gospel and deliver so many from the snare of the enemy. See Romans 3:23-26.
May we continue even to this day to be diligent and faithful to our Protestant Reformation heritage.
SDG!
Heh, heh, heh. You gotta love this story, if you haven’t been duped by the man-made global warming alarmists that is.
Two quick hits.
First, R.C. Sproul has a blog post at Ligonier called Principles of Voting. I heartily concur. Check it out here.
Excerpts (whoever typed it made some typos):
But here is what I’m going to tell you to do when you vote. As a Christian you have obligations Continue Reading »
“Are you joking?” asked VP candidate Joe Biden last week when asked about whether Obama is a Marxist. That’s not possible. We all know that. Don’t we?
Well…he sure has soaked in a lot from Marxist Socialists over the years. Fox News has a piece on their website with the following gems:
Barack Obama laughs off charges of socialism. Joe Biden scoffs at references to Marxism. Both men shrug off accusations of liberalism.
But Obama himself acknowledges that he was drawn to socialists and even Marxists Continue Reading »
Check out Stan McCullar’s blog where he pulls together several posts about the Black Genocide perpetrated on black Americans via legal murder (abortion). Barack Obama would be a horrendous choice for President for not only all Americans, but especially black Americans! Read it here.
We all know by now that Barack Obama voted four times in the Illinois legislature against a bill that would have protected babies who survived an abortion attempt. In other words, he favored infanticide, as he would have those breathing babies, with a beating heart, murdered outside the womb. Amazing? Yes. Even more amazing is the fact that some people who claim the name of Jesus Christ are supporting, working for and intend to help this man get elected to the highest office in our land.
BornAliveTruth.org was created to educate the American public about the heinous and callous voting record of Barack Obama on the abortion issue. Below is from their website as of this morning. Gianna Jessen is a botched abortion attempt survivor.
October 27, 2008: BornAliveTruth.org released its second ad today featuring abortion survivor Gianna Jessen responding to Senator Barack Obama’s direct attack on her. See the ad here. Additionally, Focus on the Family Action, a Colorado-based family organization, is kicking off a $500,000 radio ad buy featuring the original Gianna ad revealing Senator Obama’s voting record on born alive infant protections. See here.
Gianna’s first ad will air on radio stations across Colorado and the new Gianna response ad will air on TV in Cleveland and will be featured on TheDrudgeReport.com. The total ad buy for both radio and TV will be close to $600,000.
So tragic.
I have just been listening to Obama give a speech somewhere on the stump in Ohio. The more I hear this guy, the more I have crystallized my thoughts about the American public, especially the voting public. I have come to a conclusion about those who hear Obama and believe what he is promising to everyone via government giveaways. One word: Continue Reading »
For what it is worth, I plan to vote for John McCain for President on November 4th. Here are some of the reasons why:
1. McCain is pro-life. He has stated that he would like to see Roe v. Wade overturned and the abortion issue returned to the states. Obama is pro-death.
2. McCain has said that Continue Reading »
“Politics is supposed to be the second oldest profession. I have come to realize that it bears a very close resemblance to the first.”
Ronald Reagan, 1977
Jay Bennett ably deals with the New Covenant here. Definitely worth the read.
I keep hearing about Christians planning to vote for Obama, arguably the most pro-abortion (pro-murder) national candidate in our nations history. They claim to be pro-life. I also hear others say they are not voting for either of the two main candidates. They are just not going to vote. They claim to be pro-life. Then there are those “principled” people who dislike Obama and McCain and plan to vote for one of the lesser candidates (who in no way can win) so as to send a message to the national parties or because of Governor Palin being on the ticket or whatever. They claim to be pro-life.
But if you are one of the above, are you REALLY pro-life? Continue Reading »
Jeff Robinson at The Council on Biblical Manhood and Womanhood has reviewed a promising book. After reading his review of Douglas Bond’s Fathers and Sons Hold Fast in a Broken World (P&R) I’m inclined to get a copy. Robinson reviews it in two posts. Here is some of the first post:
Bond speaks directly and firmly in teasing out, for fathers and sons, the myriad implications of Hebrews 3:14, “For we have become partakers of Christ, if we hold fast the beginning of our assurance firm until the end.” Bond establishes his biblical battle cry in the first section, calling young men to be leaders and servants. Here, he calls young men to: Continue Reading »
So says a new advertising campaign in London. The British Humanist Association is raising funds to place signs on the side of London buses which will read,

Curiously, it is called the Atheist Bus Campaign. Curious because Continue Reading »
There is a disclaimer on the right sidebar of this blog. Among other things it says:

By Faith, the magazine of the PCA, has in the latest issue a point/counterpoint exchange between Lig Duncan of First Preebyterian Church of Jackson, MS and Tim Keller of Redeemer Presbyterian Church in New York City. Not surprisingly Keller tries to make the case for “commissioning” deaconesses while Duncan does make the case for NOT having female deacons. You can see the articles here.
Tim Bayly at the BaylyBlog has a couple of helpful posts on the subject and they are definitely worth a read. First, he writes about the larger context for Redeemer’s practice.
Tim Keller’s article must be interpreted in the larger context of his ministry at Redeemer. Only then will it be understood properly. The operative rule at Redeemer with regard to all things sexual is, “A woman may do anything a non-ordained man may do.” Continue Reading »

Is it shrinking (as the manmade global warming alarmists say) or growing? Correct answer? Growing!
WeGetIt.org cites sources in their weekly email update showing this growth. If you have not signed up to get their weekly e-letter, please do so at www.wegetit.org.
A year ago global warming alarmists were all atwitter about shrinking arctic sea ice. It was at record lows, and its shrinkage would increase global warming by diminishing the reflection of solar energy back into space as dark water replaced bright white ice. It was part of the irreversible march toward eco-disaster. Continue Reading »
Well not exactly. But perhaps on single-issue voting.
Last week I posted on Single-issue Voting here. In that post, I cited Sara Geis from her post thusly,
Hip, trendy, and deliberately contra-Religious Right, the argument typically takes this form:
Abortion is a single-issue.
Single-issue politics is naive and wrong.
Therefore we should not vote based upon the abortion issue.A severe problem for this argument lies in its assumption that single-issue politics is indeed wrong. Continue Reading »
do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication t with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7
It is one thing to say that you subscribe to the Christian faith it is one thing, having read your Bible … to say, ‘Yes, I believe all that, it is the faith by which I live’. But it is not always exactly the same thing to find that faith triumphant and victorious and maintaining you in a state of joy, when everything seems to have gone against you and well nigh driven you to despair…. It is far Continue Reading »
This quote is from someone in a PCA church:
Women do everything in morning worship. They give the announcements, read the Scriptures, lead in prayer, serve the Lord’s Supper… The only time a man leads is sometimes our songs, and then the sermon.
What’s wrong with this picture?

Randy Alcorn, long-time pro-life advocate, has posted an entry titled Not Cool: Obama’s Pro-Abortion Stance, and Christians Enabling Him. This maybe the best piece I have seen written on why Christians simply cannot support and vote for Barack Obama.
Randy also interacts with his “good Christian friend” Don Miller, who himself is a self-described evangelical and pro-lifer, who is an Obama supporter and delivered a prayer at the DNC.
This post is one you really should read. I will provide a series of extensive excerpts to whet your appetite.
A year and a half ago, when I first heard about Barack Obama, I got excited. I really wanted to support him. An evangelical Christian told me Obama was prolife. I didn’t care that Obama was a Democrat. I wanted a pro-life, pro-environment, pro-racial equality president who took seriously our need to care for the poor and defend the needy.
…I relished the opportunity Continue Reading »
The long awaited ESV Study Bible arrived a couple of days ago. It is impressive in its size and content. I’m just beginning to sift through the articles and notes. There are many, with 20,000 study notes and more than 100 articles. This will take some time.
Of course the text of scripture takes priority. The commentary notes are not on par with scripture and we should all be reminded of that fact. There is always a danger that a study bible can be misused–in that people will spend more time with the notes than the text itself.
That having been said, I was curious to see what the notes had to say on 1 Timothy 2:11-12. Continue Reading »
Mindy Belz of World Magazine writes:
A Dutchman working for an American firm in Khartoum once told me, “The United States will one day regret that it stood by while everyone else got their foothold in Africa.” At the time we were standing by big windows surveying bridges then being built across the White and Blue Niles by the Chinese, the Germans, and a skyscraper under construction by the Libyans: I disagreed that U.S. sanctions against Sudan had been a bad thing, but he insisted, “The United States has stood on its Continue Reading »
…on at least one thing. In the debate last night, Bob Schieffer asked the candidates this question:
Schieffer: All right. Let’s stop there and go to another question. And this one goes to Senator McCain. Senator McCain, you believe Roe v. Wade should be overturned. Senator Obama, you believe it shouldn’t.
Could either of you ever nominate someone to the Supreme Court who disagrees with you on this issue? Senator McCain?
After John McCain answered agreeing that he believes Roe should be overturned and that he would appoint strict constructionists to the court, Obama answered. Here is what Obama said with which I agree: Continue Reading »

Several good posts to look at today.
Matthew Bradley posts Obama: Murderer. Matthew obliterates the argument against single issue voting. He writes in part:
Barack Obama’s position on the rights of unborn children, and his chilling determination to exterminate as many unborn children as possible (and to make us, the taxpayers, fund it), disqualifies him from the office of president. It does so in the same way that racism disqualifies another man. If a man ran on the “I want to make rape legal” platform, we would all rise up in opposition. It wouldn’t matter if he had miraculous promise and potential in the area of foreign affairs and was able to lay out a 12 month plan for making America prosperous again like she had never been, we would NOT elect him president! That’s single-issue voting.
Al Mohler posts The Abortion Question and the Future. He writes in part:
There are signs of fatigue among Christians on this issue. Some argue that the sanctity of life issue is simply one among many important issues. Without doubt, we are faced with many urgent and important issues. Nevertheless, every voter must come to terms with what issues matter most in the electoral decision. At some point, every voter is a potential “single issue” voter. Some issues simply eclipse others.
Justin Taylor quotes extensively Robert P. George in Voting For the Most Extreme Pro-Abortion Political Candidate in American History is Not the Way to Save Babies. JT writes and quotes Mr. George:
With regard to those who think that electing Obama will save lots of unborn lives, George writes:
They tell us not to worry that Obama opposes the Hyde Amendment, the Mexico City Policy (against funding abortion abroad), parental consent and notification laws, conscience protections, and the funding of alternatives to embryo-destructive research. They ask us to look past his support for Roe v. Wade, the Freedom of Choice Act, partial-birth abortion, and human cloning and embryo-killing. An Obama presidency, they insist, means less killing of the unborn.
This is delusional.
Tim Bayly has posted Pastor Tim Keller, Gospel Preaching and Abortion. Tim writes in part,
For quite a while, now, conservative reformed pulpits have been quiet about subjects that are controversial in our political context–particularly abortion. Here is a short article written by the pastor of Redeemer Presbyterian (PCA) in New York City giving Pastor Tim Keller’s explanation of this silence. The subject goes much deeper than the politics of abortion, to the very heart of our understanding of the Gospel and the place of the Law in Gospel proclamation and Lord’s Day worship.
Danny Simpson also posts: Worshippers of Molech. He writes in part:
It was the pagan nations who first practiced child sacrifice by throwing their babies and young children into the fire of the god Molech.
Not surprisingly, little has changed in 4,000 years. Instead of high places of Baal erected, there are Planned Parenthood slaughterhouses built. Fire has been replaced with the abortion doctor’s knife. This modern day “high place” has become a multi-million dollar industry. Oh, how abominable it is that profit is made by the slaughter of babies!
I have been told by other Christians that there are more important things to worry about than abortion. There are other issues that take a greater precedence based on the time, need, and relevance, or so they say. I have been told that the economy and environment are the most important issues that voters must focus on at this time. However, isn’t it quite interesting that William Wilberforce fought for the abolition of the slave trade even though it would potentially radically hurt their economy because the slave trade was such a lucrative business? Do you remember how so many people fought against Wilberforce for this very reason?
All these posts remind me to ask again the question: “How can a person who names the name of Jesus Christ possibly vote for Barack Obama?”
